My Relationship With Running

Thanks to extended time at home for the past few months, running has turned into one of my favorite activities. I have a background in long-distance running after years of participation in track and cross country races. But running during quarantine felt different and more freeing than my past experiences with the sport. No one was forcing me to run, and I didn’t feel obligated to sign up for any races. Running during quarantine was as much for my mental health as it was for my physical health.

As soon as the stay-at-home order was put into place, one of the first things I worried about was how I would get my exercise in. I had a gym membership, and I frequently relied on my trusty treadmill, elliptical, and bike machines to keep me in shape every day. I don’t have any machines at home, and it was still winter and freezing out when quarantine struck. After spending years running in the cold to train for my track and cross country races, the idea of running outside didn’t initially excite me, but I’m so glad this changed over time.

Extended time at home helped me realize the excitement in the mundane and how we take every day things for granted. I accepted that while I may no longer have a gym membership now that my gym is closed, running outside is accessible to me more than ever. I refused to miss out on this opportunity to get my fresh air every day and keep my blood pumping during a time when it’s so easy to spiral into laziness. Hey, I didn’t mind the opportunity to get new Supernova sneakers from adidas, either.

Why You Should Run During Your Time at Home

Running is easily one of the hardest sports, and I’m not going to sugarcoat that. But it is also one of the best ways to exercise your body and see results from your efforts. Running will work your body physically, but it can provide peace for the mind too.

 1. It’s Free

Unlike expensive exercise classes and gym memberships, running outside is completely free. You can run at your own leisure, and if you need an off day, you don’t have to worry about wasting money. You can run for as long or as short as you want to, and you can run anywhere that’s safe for you.

2.You Have Time

Before becoming stuck at home, running was not at the top of my to-do list. I love it, but there was always something more important I had to accomplish first, and the extra time spent exercising or getting ready after a run was not on my schedule. Now that we’re all at home more, fitting in a run before or after work is easy.

3.It’s a Productive Way to Get in Shape

Running works my body more than any exercise class, sport, or workout program I’ve done. If you spend at least 30 mins a day running, you’re sure to see results. After running for several years, I’ve noticed that my endurance has improved, I rarely ever experience shortness of breath, and my legs are toned.

4.You’ll Cope With Stress in a Healthy Way

I stress before there’s anything to stress about. Quarantine wasn’t the best experience for my mental health, and running is a healthy way for me to channel my frustrations. You can’t run away from your problems, but you can find a positive outlet to deal with them.

5.Your Body Will Feel More Energized

It’s easy to be lazy now that we’re all spending more time at home with TV and snacks. Running once a day will keep your body in good health, and you will feel more alert and ready to take on the day.

My Running Routine

I’m a creature of habit, and I function best when I have a routine. I find that running in the morning works best for me because it gets me out of bed early. I begin my workouts with my stretching routine and then do a few warm-up exercises to get my body ready to run.

After I warm up, I go for a long-distance run of at least 30 minutes. It can be more or less depending on the weather and how I feel. I like to do at least 30 minutes so I feel like I got a good workout in. Lately, I run at a park a few towns over from me. There’s an oval-shaped trail similar to the size of a track and it allows me to easily count my laps. I enjoy running outside, especially now while the weather is so nice.

After I run, I cool down by walking a few laps around the trail. It’s important not to sit down immediately following a run because your body needs to be stretched.

My Running Gear of Choice

My extended time at home finally allowed me to get a new pair of running shoes. I have sensitive feet after years of running and experiences with Plantar Fasciitis, inflammation of the heel tissue, so I knew I had to choose quality sneakers with good support. adidas is my go-to brand for athleisure and workout gear so it was a no-brainer that I’d choose a pair of sneakers from one of my favorite brands. I went with the Supernova sneaker in black and pink, one of my favorite color combinations. This pair of sneakers has cushioning at the forefront and the heel of the shoe for comfort and protection, which is perfect for my feet and all the miles they run. I usually style my Supernova sneakers with an adidas sports bra and a pair of my favorite adidas leggings too for a cool, comfortable feel while running.

How adidas Supernova Sneakers Help Me Stay Active

Whenever I get a new pair of running shoes, all I want to do is run in them to break them in. As soon as I stepped into my adidas Supernova sneakers, I knew I was going to have a great experience exercising from here on out. They’re comfortable, and I feel like I’m walking on air when I wear them. The material is lightweight, and the extra cushioning keeps my feet secure. I appreciate the little things in life nowadays, such as wearing a cute, comfortable pair of shoes!

Thank you for reading today’s post, and I hope you find running helpful too.

Oh I wish I could run, I tried it but I struggle with it. I have mild asthma so my lungs bother me when I run. But I go out walking every day and I also do yoga. For cardio I like to dance! Adidas make great sneakers a love these joggers that you are wearing!
