Why Exercise At-Home?
Besides for getting yourself out of bed a little earlier than normal and creating a routine for yourself, your body still needs exercise regardless of the quarantine. You don’t need a gym membership or fancy exercise classes to get your body in shape. YouTube and Pinterest offer plenty of free workouts you can do from the comfort of your own home, so you don’t have to put fitness on hold despite the quarantine order.
As soon as I realized that the quarantine was going to last much longer than we originally anticipated, I set to work on creating a workout regime that excites me. One of my goals for 2020 was to gain more strength and tone my body, and I’m proud to say that working out from home has helped me with this resolution. There are a lot of fitness instructors and influencers out there, and sometimes it’s hard to choose which workout to follow. Kayla Itsines is a fitness instructor I’ve always trusted and admired, and I swear by her Bikini Body Guide. I highly suggest following the routine of a certified personal trainer such as Kayla and identifying which types of workouts are best for your body.
My Routine
Shortly before quarantine started, I began Kayla’s guide for the second time. This time, I was more committed to it than when I had tried it out back in 2018. Her exercises work your whole body and give you time during the week to work on cardio too, which is my strength because I have a background in long-distance running. Her workouts also encourage you to lift weights and jump rope too.
Before I begin any workouts, I like to stretch first. I stretch my whole body from my neck all the way down to my lower back. Stretching warms up my muscles before I exert myself. Comfortable athleisure clothing is the best to exercise in, and this set from adidas is my favorite. I’m wearing the Believe This 2.0 Tights , Winners Tank Top, and Superstar sneakers.
The workouts vary week by week, and these are some of the exercises you can expect from Kayla’s guide. From pushups to burpees, Kayla knows which exercises will thoroughly work your body. Following a week-by-week guide such as this will get your body in a routine each day. Here are a few screenshots of the exercises I’m completing today!
After my workout, I complete my stretch routine again so my body can cool down. Don’t be afraid to spend as long as you need stretching out your muscles. My adidas athleisure is easy to move around in and perfect for stretching.

Benefits of Working Out From Home
Here are a few of the benefits I now have by working out from home!
1. More Time– I mentioned this earlier in the post, but you now have more time to exercise. You can workout right before or after work without having to worry about getting ready in business attire. There’s no travel time to get to a gym or workout class either!
2. Free- The Kayla Itsines guide I follow is a digital e-book I paid for, but there are plenty of free workouts available to you from fitness influencers, personal trainers, and gyms.
3. Privacy- If working out at a gym intimidated you before quarantine, now you can do it from the comfort of your own home. I prefer to be alone while I exercise and solitude, while I exercise, is a bonus for me.
4. Comfort– You can wear whatever you want to work out. You will never have to worry about a dress code.
5. Flexibility- You’re not committed to any gyms or memberships so you’re free to experiment with as many different workout routines as you’d like until you find what works for you.
6. No Germs– Need I say more? Avoiding any potentially life-threatening germs during this Coronavirus period is a given. There’s no one to worry about but yourself and your household.
