A little over 100 years ago, women were fighting for basic human rights. They couldn’t take an active part in their societies by voting, and they were ostracized by men for attempting to gain independence from their submissive lifestyles.
Today we celebrate how far women have come and our continued fight for justice, equal rights, and social and economic development. International Women’s Day is on March 8th, and it’s a time to reflect on our role models and the achievements of women. On this special day, reflect on iconic women who rewrote our histories such as Rosa Parks, the woman who rejected a white man’s demand for her bus seat, or Susan B. Anthony, one of the founding members of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. However, the woman that inspires me the most is someone closer to home—my grandma.

Grandparents are one of the biggest blessings you can receive. While parents are traditionally strict family members, grandparents are the ones who allow you to have that one cookie before dinner. My grandma, Mimi, goes over and beyond for my family, and she’s always been my role model.
All women deserve to have a positive role model in their life, and I’m so thankful to have had my grandma all these years right beside me. She is one of the kindest and most beautiful people I’ve ever met, and she will do anything for me. Kindness is important, and if I have half of the kindness she has one day, I’ll be lucky. She makes it a priority to practice her faith every week and give back to her community when she can, and she inspires me to become a better person.
Her lessons on cultivating strong relationships with family and friends stick out to me the most. I come from a close-knit family. Occasionally, I get annoyed with family members, but Mimi reminds me how lucky I am to have these people in my life. Some of her closest friends are people she grew up with, and I try to look for friendships like that in every stage of my life. If you find people that truly love and support you, don’t let them go.
I love how my grandma looks at the world. She is an incredibly talented artist with an eye for creativity, and she has a gift for drawing and painting. I’ve always loved to visit her home and look at all of her incredible pieces of art. I appreciate art in the same way that she does, but I look at it from a fashion lens. Mimi loves photography and she always has her camera in hand. She’s one of the biggest supporters of my blog, and she’s always willing to help me. She loved my recent post sharing my healthy lifestyle and adidas superstar sneakers so much, she wanted to take a part in this post too.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, my mom, Mimi, and I went to get afternoon tea together. I had a fabulous day honoring my role model. I think we can all relate to living a busy life, and sometimes it’s not easy to make time for fun activities.
We ordered tea and scones and then walked around local boutiques together. All in all, it was an amazing day, and I’m so thankful for experiences like this.
We also shot photos together because I can’t miss out on a good photo opportunity, haha. International Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to wear an outfit that inspires and empowers you while reflecting on your role model. I have chosen to wear a practical, stylish winter look complete with a pink faux fur coat, a black polka dot midi skirt, and my favorite adidas sneakers, of course. I’m grateful to have had my grandmother’s assistance shooting photos and spending time together to honor our creative passions together.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you all have a wonderful International Women’s Day. Make time to celebrate the important women in your lives!

What a touching post! How wonderful to have such a close relationship with your grandmother. And to not only love and be inspired by her, but t respect her as well. I think more young people in our country need to be more respectful of the elders. We really do raise some very entitled adults. It is kind of sad and maddening how some people are not heading the call for social distancing. And the attitudes about it are even worse. But on a lighter note LOVE these photos and how nice to have tea with your grandmother on IWD. I actually went to a fashion show an off the FW radar show.I have not been out since.

Aw thanks so much for reading 🙂 I totally agree! I wish people would respect their elders more too. There are so many people not social distancing and it’s upsetting to see. Luckily, we took these photos/went out for tea a little before IWD to avoid going out in public because of the virus. A fashion show sounds like fun! I enjoyed your latest video 🙂

This is such a sweet post. I never got to know my own grandmothers as they passed away when I was 3 and lived overseas. I have a lot of family overseas and a lot of strong, fierce and independent female cousins and always wondered how that could have moulded me had I grown up surrounded by these women.
