I woke up to chilly temperatures for the past two days and I think it’s safe to say that fall is slowly on its way. For the longest time summer was my favorite season. And I loved everything about the sun, sand, and heat—until I didn’t anymore. After working in New York City this past summer, I am over hot temperatures. Thus, walking around the City for more than five minutes felt like a marathon and don’t even get me started about how hot the subway stations get during the peak of August! Plus, fall activities can’t be beat. Apple picking, pumpkin picking, foliage rides, and corn mazes are quite the thrill. And let’s not forget all the Halloween decor, candles and pumpkin spice everything. Fall is not only a better season for my lifestyle, but for my fashion too.
I’m starting to transition into a trendier look and fall is the best season for this. Teddy coats, black jeans, leopard print booties…you get the picture! I love the outbreak of animal print this year and neutral shades appeal to me. Fall is the ideal time to experiment with darker colors. I would much rather be cozy and comfortable in my favorite sweaters than baking alive in a cute crop top. The temperatures fluctuate a lot during September and October, so you may leave the house in a jacket and end up in a tank top by the middle of the day. I love to style different outfits, and it gives me more opportunities to wear my tank tops instead of laying them to rest at the end of the summer.
I spend a lot of my time studying fashion trends. In fact, one of the next articles I’m writing in my arts and entertainment reporting journalism class is a trend story. I love to analyze the outfits designers release on the runway and find ways to make their styles own. If you caught my latest YouTube video (which I’ll include down below) then you saw my beginning of fall fashion haul with a variety of trendy pieces. Some of my must-haves for fall include color block sweaters, corduroy skirts, button-down cropped sweaters, and anything pumpkin orange! But not all fall fashion has to be expensive because personally, I care more about style than a brand. All of the items I’m sharing with you are affordable and won’t break the bank! Here are 10 clothing pieces to invest in for fall.
Color Block Sweaters
This isn’t a new trend, but it’s one that I’m really into this fall. I love a sweater that combines a variety of fall shades, and I can style it in different ways. Color block sweaters are a great way to keep your wardrobe colorful as we transition to the colder months.
Lace Cami Tank Tops
These are the perfect tops for layering and I also keep a few on handy to style with my sweaters as the weather get colder and the weather goes from hot to cold all day. These are very trendy and a little bit dressier than a normal tank top.
Corduroy Skirts
I’ve always loved corduroy skirts and while the traditional color is a camel brown, they now come in a variety of colors. Recently, I picked up a burgundy one to wear during the fall and I love it! I think it looks nice with my dark hair, and I can style it with my sweaters and lace camis.
Leather
Leather is very trendy this fall and you can find leather in any form from leggings to skirts these days. My personal favorites are camel leather mini skirts and faux leather leggings and both have easily become staples in my closet because I can’t go without them!
Button-Down Cropped Sweater
This is a new style of sweater I found this year, and I’ve seen it all over Instagram lately. I love the v-neck because you can wear it with a bralette or open over a dress and I’m a sucker for buttons because they’re such a cute detail!
Fall Sweaters
I always like to pick up a few sweaters in traditional fall colors for the new season. Colors like mustard yellow, tan, ivory, burgundy, and olive kickstart fall time for me and I like my outfits to go along with the current season. Solids are easy to style and sold in just about every store, so it’s easy to find them.
Pumpkin Color
Pumpkin or any type of orange is very on-trend this season and this color took a little while to grow on me, but it’s one of the traditional fall colors so I couldn’t refuse it. I personally like it best in sweater form.
Flannel
Flannels during fall are a no-brainer and I have a variety of them by this point, but you can never go wrong with a few new ones! They’re cozy for colder days and fun to style with denim and skirts.
Sherpa Jacket
I’ll take all the fur and I love how sophisticated sherpa jackets look. But this year, I’m really into corduroy sherpa jackets for something a little different from denim.
Denim
Denim is a must! This season, wide-leg and cropped flare jeans are in. Goodbye skinny jeans! And try colored denim in maroon/burgundy, camel or olive green for fun too.
